Our ministry is, and shall continue to be, self funded! All of the gloves and mitts we sell were donated by the original purchaser and ministry founder, Ricky Wascher. Any and all proceeds from glove and mitt sales, the artworks we will produce, and appraisal fees generated, will be used to support our bible teaching, mission(s) and ministry operations globally!

All things being equal, meaning by comparison of two (2) or more gloves of the same brand, model, style, etc., the gloves in better condition should cost more! This is no surprise. Many vintage glove dealers spent a lot of time cleaning and prepping their gloves and adding protective coatings and finishes to make them look good.
All of the gloves and mitts I sell are in their natural, acquired state. If I were to spend the time cleaning the gloves I sell as-is, I might actually detract from the value. Some collectors like the aged and natural appearance. Thus, I leave the cleaning to the buyer. Still, here are some examples of the kinds of things that impact the value of a vintage baseball glove.
* * *
This first one gets three (3) strikes, not just one. First, there is ink
on it–strike one! Second, the ink is the name of a prior owner, user,
collector, etc., and not merely an extraneous ink mark–strike 2! Third, the ink is in a prominent location and not inconspicuous like the underside of the wrist strap–strike 3! This glove could have sold for over $155, but it sold $130. That is a loss of $25 for that inked name John Hahn.

This next one only gets two (2) strikes. First, the glove is an antique grommet lace style, but the lace is missing–strike 1! Second, even though it is old, there is a tear at the crotch between the thumb and forefinger–strike 2! Still, because of its age this glove suffers little from the two (2) strikes and still commands a very high price because of age.

This one only get's one strike. The only blemish is the missing patch the prior owner removed–strike 1! Removing the patch makes no sense. More than likely the prior owner removed it so he or she could glue it on the wrist strap of another glove. The problem with doing this is the value of this glove gets reduced, AND the value of the glove receiving the non-original patch is also reduced because of the application of glue to the leather and a non-authentic item. Whoever did this should watch "Antiques Roadshow" to learn about value preservation. (Note: the imperfections around the piping of this glove are noteworthy, but have little impact on market valuation because of the patch issue.)
More to come!
